大阪在住の阿部様が幼少の頃、強く心を奪われたクルマがありました。

お父様の知人が所有されていたTVRキミーラ。

流れるような曲線を描くボディ、長いボンネット、前方へ大きく開くクラムシェルボンネット。そして、英国製スポーツカーならではの迫力あるV8サウンド。その唯一無二の存在感は、幼い日の記憶に鮮明に刻まれていました。

それから長い年月を経て、CRANKのInstagramで偶然目にした一台。

「このクルマに会いたい。」

その想いだけで岡山へ向かわれ、実車をご覧になったその場で購入を決断されました。

TVR Chimaeraは1992年から2003年まで約5,000台のみが生産された、希少な英国製ハンドメイドスポーツカーです。

軽量なボディにRover製V8エンジンを搭載し、電子制御に頼らないピュアなドライビングフィールは、現代のスポーツカーでは味わうことのできない魅力を備えています。

希少な一台だからこそ、整備には専門店で2年以上の歳月を要しました。それでも阿部様は、その日を信じ、辛抱強く待ち続けてくださいました。

そして迎えた納車の日。

幼い頃の記憶が、目の前の一台とともに鮮やかによみがえります。

「山形にいる父に、このクルマを早く見せたい。」

その言葉からは、一台のクルマが親子の記憶をつなぎ、新たな物語を紡いでいくことへの喜びが伝わってきました。

TVR Chimaera 1995

As a child, Mr. Abe from Osaka was captivated by a very special car.

It belonged to one of his father’s acquaintances—a TVR Chimaera.

Its flowing curves, impossibly long bonnet, front-hinged clamshell hood, and the unmistakable roar of its British V8 left an unforgettable impression on him. The memory stayed vivid for decades.

Many years later, he came across this very Chimaera on CRANK’s Instagram.

“I have to see this car.”

Driven by that feeling alone, he traveled to Okayama. The moment he saw the car in person, his decision was made.

The TVR Chimaera is a rare hand-built British sports car, with only around 5,000 examples produced between 1992 and 2003.

Its lightweight construction, Rover V8 engine, and purely analogue driving experience offer a level of engagement that is becoming increasingly rare in today’s sports cars.

Because of its rarity, the restoration and mechanical work required more than two years at a specialist workshop. Even so, Mr. Abe patiently waited, never losing faith that the day would finally come.

At last, delivery day arrived.

The memories of his childhood came flooding back the moment he stood before the car once again.

“I can’t wait to show this car to my father in Yamagata.”

A remarkable automobile had become something even more meaningful—a bridge connecting memories across generations, and the beginning of a new story.
